While investors continue to focus on emerging markets and commodities, the greatest opportunities for investment over the next decade are mainly in the United States.

The deflation of the global credit bubble favors investing in the United States, according to Richard Bernstein, of Richard Bernstein Advisors.

“Investors are waiting for emerging markets and commodities to rebound, and are generally ignoring the asset classes that are outperforming, such as U.S. stocks and bonds,” Bernstein writes. “We continue to favor U.S. assets as the core of our strategies. U.S. stocks have now outperformed BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) for more than four years, and the U.S. dollar (as measured by the DXY) troughed in 2008.”

Bernstein also makes a strong case for long-term U.S. Treasuries, not for income but for diversification.
